Malaga is postulated as homeport because of the extensive airport connections between the two territories
Malaga, 7th July 2023 - A delegation from Malaga, with representatives from the Port Authority, Malaga Port Foundation, Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol and Malaga Cruise Port, with the support of the Tourism Board of Malaga City Council and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government, carried out a commercial action with Cruise companies based in the United Kingdom between the 4th and 7th July.
This joint action foresees maintaining contact with the cruise lines & itinerary responsibles, which is why it was interesting to promote the increase of the number of calls and, especially, to position new ships based in the Port of Malaga, starting and/or ending their route in the city.
Airport connections play a fundamental role in this decision, given that Malaga Airport handled nearly six million passengers per year with the United Kingdom in 2019. A record year surpassed by the traffic records of the current year, which expects to maintain the leadership of the British market.
The port infrastructure also allows us to offer the service that transfers the passenger's luggage from the origin airport to their cabins in the ship directly and vice versa.
All this information was shared with the companies, in addition to other information about the facilities, port services and the wide range of hotels and excursions in the capital, the province and the region as a whole.
The Malaga delegation visited the offices of the British Cruise lines Saga Cruises, Ambassador, Carnival UK (comprising Cunard and P&O) and Fred Olsen. The agenda was completed by an online meeting with Royal Caribbean International, which has a space dedicated to the British market.
After this B2B commercial action, contacts will continue in the next events dedicated to cruise tourism. The most imminent will be Seatrade Europe in Hamburg, between 6 and 8 September.
