The Port of Málaga kicks off the spring cruise season with 117 port calls scheduled
Spring is here in the Port of Málaga, and with it comes one of the peak seasons for cruise tourism, during which 172,000 passengers aboard 117 ships are expected to arrive between 15 March and 29 June, consolidating the figures compared to the same period last year.
The season opens with the exclusive port of call of the ‘Four Seasons Yacht’, which is currently on its maiden voyage and has chosen Málaga to host its christening ceremony. The vessel has a maximum capacity of 190 passengers and will remain docked at the Palmeral Terminal from today, Friday, until next Tuesday, 17 March, offering cruise passengers a unique experience just 5 minutes from the city centre.
In fact, a further 66 ships belonging to luxury and premium cruise lines are expected to arrive at the Port of Málaga between March and June, accounting for more than 50% of all planned port calls in the coming months and continuing the upward trend in this type of tourism.
In addition to the ‘Four Seasons Yacht’, two other ships will visit the port for the first time, with Royal Caribbean’s ‘Legend of the Seas’ closing the season on 29 June. In fact, Málaga will be the first European port of call for this ship on its maiden voyage from the Caribbean, from where it will begin its summer season in the Mediterranean.
Finally, the Port of Málaga will host 21 homeport calls, with itineraries starting and/or ending in the city, including companies such as MSC Cruises, Marella Cruises, Sea Cloud and Star Clippers, amongst others.
During this period, the Port of Málaga will host a maximum of four cruise ships per day on 13 April, 2 May, 5 May and 26 June, during which stops by both small and large vessels will be combined. This distribution will therefore promote the diversification of excursions and facilitate sustainable management of tourist flows arriving by sea.
